Blah, Blah, Blah…: Changing Your Negative Self-Talk

Thursday, July 30th, 2009

We all talk to ourselves throughout the day, although we may not always be aware of our self-talk or what we are actually saying. These thoughts influence our feelings and perceptions about what’s going on in our lives. They determine what we notice in the world and what we attract into our lives.

By expecting the negative, we filter our experiences and interpret events in a way that meets these expectations. We see only the negative side of each situation. We pay more attention to the negative comments from others, to the decisions we made that weren’t the best and to the plans that didn’t work out.

By focusing on the positive, we will notice the opportunities that come from change, acknowledge our personal successes and notice more of the beauty and joy in our lives.

Our negative self-talk can stop us from taking risks, making choices, expressing our feelings or working toward our goals. It affects the amount of stress we experience and how we behave in relationships.

In this book I suggest practical information and techniques to help you change your negative self-talk to positive self-talk and create a happier life. These include:

- what self-talk is and how it impacts our lives.

- the relationship between self-talk and self-esteem, stress management, addictions, assertivenes skills and communication with others.

- how our self-talk develops, both overtly and covertly.

- common forms of negative self-talk and how simply changing the words you use can change your life.

- an easy to follow six-step model to help change your negative self-talk to positive.

- a selection of ideas to help increase the power of the positive in your life and keep your positive energy flowing.

Pessimism to Realistic Hope: A Cognitive-Behavioral Treatment Program for Depression and Self-Esteem

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

The most encouraging aspect about psychological helplessness is that in the overwhelming majority of cases, it is simply a bad habit that can be overcome. Extreme pessimism and psychological helplessness can be dismantled and replaced by a more constructive approach to life. The key is not to wait until a good or positive feeling comes over us, but by pro-actively doing something constructive for ourselves. Pessimism to Realistic Hope offers a two-week, systematic approach to correction in addressing depression. By disciplining the mind to follow a script that leads away from irrational thinking and self-defeating behavior, it is possible to change. Providing specific suggestions and offering hope by confronting faulty assumptions, it becomes possible to construct a rational optimism leading to the enjoyment of life.

Self Parenting: The Complete Guide to Your Inner Conversations

Tuesday, July 28th, 2009

SELF-PARENTING: The Complete Guide to Your Inner Conversations is the classic and original how-to book defining the concept of “self-parenting.” Many of us grew up within a parental environment that did not support our childhood needs for love, support, and nurturing. As adults, we mentally continue the same patterns as an “Inner Parent” that left us feeling alone and abandoned as a child. By beginning the daily practice of positive Self-Parenting, the negative outer parenting patterns taught as a child (and subsequently internalized as an adult) can be recognized and reversed. The foundation of the SELF-PARENTING is the daily practice of the Self-Parenting Exercises, a thirty-minute session of cognitive interaction between the Inner Parent and Inner Child. During these daily half-hour sessions Illustrated In the book, the reader learns how to love, support, and nurture his or her Inner Child as well as increase their awareness of the profound implications of their Inner Conversations in the “real world.”
